Claimant B

A 7-wood is a harbor tool, not a personality

Catalog copy treats the 7-wood as a miracle. On Plume Street it is a claimant. It wins when it gets the ball up in wet air without begging. It loses when the hole is a punching alley and the ball has to stay under live oak.

Why humidity votes for it

River moisture makes a long iron feel like a butter knife. The 7-wood’s face and loft conspire to launch without a perfect squeeze. Players who already hit a 5-wood well often find the 7-wood is the missing high berth, not a second 3-iron in disguise.

Why trees vote against it

Lambert’s Point and some Ocean View holes are corridors. A ballooning 7-wood is a gift to the branches. On those loops the driving iron or a strong 5-wood is the adult. We will not ink a 7-wood because a magazine said every bag needs one.

It still has to beat the other two

Slot three is one berth. If the 7-wood duplicates the 5-wood, that is an echo, and echoes get cut in the hybrid census too. If it cannot beat the driving iron into Celia’s fan, it does not get a medal for being fashionable.
